[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) will develop public design for the area of Jungoe Park Cultural and Arts Belt, Gwangju's representative art travel destination, by February next year.
On the 13th, Buk-gu announced that it secured 300 million KRW in national funding after being selected in the '2021 Public Design Enhancing Life Safety and Convenience' contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Craft & Design Cultural Promotion Agency.
To ensure smooth execution of the public design development project, Buk-gu signed a business agreement with the design specialized institution, Gwangju Design Promotion Agency (CEO Wi Seongho), and appointed Han Woosung, Director of the Universal Trend Center, as the general director.
The project includes developing an integrated guidance system such as smart information booths, digital maps, and signboards to provide convenience to tourists and citizens visiting Jungoe Park.

Meanwhile, the Jungoe Park Cultural and Arts Belt is a cultural and artistic tourist destination visited by more than 1.5 million visitors annually.
Since the 7th local government term, Buk-gu has signed business agreements with five institutions including the National Gwangju Museum, Gwangju Museum of Art, Culture and Arts Center, History and Folklore Museum, and Biennale Exhibition Hall in 2019 to promote various cooperative projects aimed at revitalizing the Jungoe Park Cultural and Arts Belt, one of its major pledges.
District Mayor Moon In said, “We will strive to realize public design that adds convenience to cultural and artistic spaces so that the Jungoe Park Cultural and Arts Belt can be further revitalized.”
