[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Retail sales, an important indicator of consumer spending, in Europe for August showed a weaker performance than initially expected.
On the 6th (local time), Eurostat, the statistical authority of the European Union (EU), announced that European retail sales in August increased by 0.3% compared to the previous month and showed no change (0.0%) compared to the previous year.
Experts had predicted increases of 0.8% month-on-month and 0.4% year-on-year, but both figures fell short of initial expectations.

July retail sales were revised to -2.6% month-on-month from the previous -2.3%. The year-on-year figure remained unchanged at 3.1%.
