"Ordered Small Intestines, but Found Excrement"... The Identity of Straw-Like Material Found in Delivered Gopchang
Company Says "Keeping the Tripe Alive Is the Restaurant's Secret"
Similar Case Reported in April Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A review claiming that a delivery of gopchang (beef intestines) from a delivery company contained foreign substances resembling cow excrement has sparked public outrage online.
In the review, author A wrote, "Don't call this gopchang... this is poop," and attached a photo. He insisted that the contents inside the gopchang in the photo were not gop but cow excrement.
However, the company stated, "Our restaurant's secret is to keep the gop intact," adding, "We think this might be your first experience. If you are dissatisfied, please call us for compensation."
In response, netizens expressed negative reactions such as "I don't think I can eat this again," "Is keeping the gop intact the same as not cleaning it properly?" and "Their explanation makes no sense."
Meanwhile, in April last year, a netizen exposed on an online community that "cow excrement was found in food from a famous market on Facebook and Instagram." Author B shared photos of straw and excrement suspected to be cow feed found inside the gopchang they purchased, stating it was "for the public good."
B said, "It didn't taste like usual, so I thought it was just my imagination and ate two or three pieces, but it had a rough texture like straw," adding, "I realized it was a foreign substance and spat it out to check, and since there were many eyelash-like things, I cut other pieces with scissors."
Afterward, B contacted customer service and received a response confirming that it was indeed excrement.

The company explained that the foreign substance in the photo was "undigested 'forage'." They added, "We have apologized multiple times and voluntarily reported to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. We regret that the scale of compensation requested by the customer exceeds the maximum amount we can provide, so we have been unable to proceed with compensation."
