View original imageAccording to Yonhap News Agency on May 16, at around 9:17 p.m. the previous day, the tires of 13 vehicles were damaged while passing through the Palkyeolgyo Bridge from Ochang to Cheongju in Oepyeong-dong, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province. The drainage facility cover, which should normally be level with the road surface, had for unknown reasons come off its place and was lying on the road. As these vehicles drove over the metal cover that had come off and was lying near the entrance of Palkyeolgyo Bridge, their tires were damaged.
Some vehicles suffered severely torn tire sidewalls or collapsed wheels, and scratches were also reported around the rims.

A police official stated, "There were continuous reports of tire damage during a similar time frame," adding, "We notified the responsible authority, the Boeun National Land Management Office, of the incident, and a temporary measure has now been completed, so there are no disruptions to traffic."
