View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] HMM announced on the 30th that it has been selected as a model case for the 'Korean New Deal of the Month' through the promotion of eco-friendly business policies.
As Korea's leading national deep-sea shipping company, HMM has been recognized for its active participation and contribution to the transition to future-oriented eco-friendly mobility by signing a business agreement for a green ammonia maritime transport and bunkering consortium with major shipbuilders, logistics companies, and the Korean Register, leading the eco-friendly ship and shipping market. As a result, it was selected as an awardee in the Green New Deal (Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries) category.
The company declared a carbon neutrality goal by 2050, the first among domestic shipping companies, and proactively announced its commitment to developing zero-carbon ships by joining the 'Zero Emission Maritime Alliance,' an international shipping consortium, while building cooperative systems with companies and institutions.
HMM reduced the unit greenhouse gas emissions of its vessels by approximately 55% in 2020 compared to 2008 through the introduction of equipment and ship modifications to improve energy efficiency. This year, it aims to reduce emissions by about 57%, targeting approximately 70% reduction by 2030.
In addition, HMM is actively participating in signing business agreements for the demonstration of eco-friendly fuel 'biofuel' usage, the green ammonia maritime transport and bunkering consortium, joint research on eco-friendly smart ships, and national projects for decarbonization such as the establishment of an R&D platform for eco-friendly hydrogen fuel ships.
Meanwhile, the 'Korean New Deal of the Month' plaque awarding ceremony held at the Gwanghwamun Government Seoul Office was attended by Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Moon Seong-hyeok and HMM CEO Bae Jae-hoon, among other awardees.
