View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Yoon Geon-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the son of Gwak Sang-do, an independent lawmaker (former member of the People Power Party) who received 5 billion KRW as severance pay and other fees from Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management, which is at the center of the preferential treatment allegations in the Seongnam Daejang-dong development project, saying, "Since the old-style bribery scandals, they have developed a new method called severance pay."
On the morning of the 30th, Yoon appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "5 billion KRW is the amount that a new college graduate at a large corporation would have to save without spending a single penny for 121 years. If they enter a small or medium-sized enterprise, they would have to save for 180 years," emphasizing the point.
Regarding the allegations surrounding the Daejang-dong development project, Yoon said, "The Daejang-dong case is like a melodramatic soap opera," adding, "The essence of the case is a real estate cartel and vested interests. So far, the main characters have mostly been from the People Power Party."
He also criticized the People Power Party, which claims that Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung is the 'ringleader' of the Daejang-dong development project scandal, saying, "The People Power Party has misunderstood the essence. Because this happened in Seongnam, they focused their attacks on Lee Jae-myung, the leading Democratic Party candidate, but in fact, the situation has backfired. They launched a massive political offensive against candidate Lee Jae-myung, but I believe the tide has completely turned."
Yoon also addressed former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, stating, "Isn't this an enormous amount of money? It might be inappropriate to compare, but former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk was indicted for bribery because his daughter received a scholarship of 6 million KRW," adding, "That was during Yoon Seok-youl's time as Prosecutor General. Yoon Seok-youl must answer how he views the case where Gwak Sang-do's son received 5 billion KRW in severance pay."

Furthermore, regarding the allegations that Governor Lee gave preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development project, Yoon said, "Considering the usual practices, Lee Jae-myung was a so-called 'watchlist' local government head under observation during the Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak administrations," adding, "I have some confidence that he would not have engaged in such activities under those circumstances."
