Gwangyang City Hosts Author Kim Yonghee for This Year's Book Lecture
In-Person and Online Sessions Held Simultaneously at Yonggang Library
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeonnam Gwangyang City Library announced that on the 28th, it held a lecture by author Kim Yong-hee, who was selected as the adult category author of the ‘2021 Book of the Year’ for the book “Bap-i Geuriwojyeotda” at Yonggang Library.
At the ‘2021 Book of the Year’ announcement ceremony held on June 4, author Kim Yong-hee expressed gratitude via video to the citizens of Gwangyang who selected Bap-i Geuriwojyeotda as the book of the year, and visited Gwangyang upon invitation from the city library in celebration of Reading Month.
The lecture minimized in-person attendees to prevent COVID-19 and simultaneously conducted a non-face-to-face online broadcast to encourage citizen participation.
During the lecture, Kim Yong-hee vividly shared stories about tastes and foods connected to memories in everyday life, receiving great responses from the attendees.
Author Kim incorporated his experiences related to commonly seen foods such as kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), gimbap, hamburgers, and seolleongtang (ox bone soup) into literature such as poetry and essays during the lecture.
In the latter part of the lecture, citizens attending in person shared their own memories and stories related to food, empathizing with each other, and engaged in a Q&A session about what foods could be recommended for various situations.
Gwangyang City Library selects a ‘Book of the Year’ annually to foster a culture of reading in the local community and operates a reading culture program that includes reading, discussing, and communicating through meetings with authors of the selected books.
A library official stated, “On October 16, we plan to invite author Eun So-hol, who wrote the children’s book 5 Beon Rein, to Hope Library to meet with children under the theme ‘The Bubbles of Greed Boiling Inside Me.’”
