Arko Arts Theater Hosts 40th Anniversary Exhibition 'Platform of the Night'
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Arko Arts Theater, operated by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, announced on the 29th that it will present the archive project commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Arko Arts Theater's opening, titled "Night Platform," on October 1st.
"Night Platform" directly quotes the title of a long-running radio program from the 1970s broadcast by Dong-A Broadcasting. The project title was adopted because it was considered suitable to express the theater as a space-time platform where the past, present, and future can be viewed.
The Arko Arts Theater opened in 1981 as the "Korea Arts & Culture Promotion Agency Cultural Center," and in 2002, the facility name changed from Cultural Center to "Arts Theater." In 2005, it was renamed the "Arko Arts Theater." With the establishment of the Daehangno Arts Theater in 2009, it firmly established itself as a representative complex cultural space in Daehangno. From 2010 to 2014, it was separated from the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service and operated as the Korea Performing Arts Center, but it has since been reintegrated into the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.
"Night Platform" is a project planned from the perspective of artists to reflect on the 40-year history of the Arko Arts Theater. Chief curator Hyun Siwon (exhibition), curators Kim Jaeri (performance), and Jeon Kanghee (talk & lecture) reinterpret the archived past and, together with participating artists, explore the present and future of the Arko Arts Theater's 40th anniversary through their own themes. Artists Kim Donghee, Kim Ikhyun, No Songhee, Matkkalson, Oh Seokgeun, Hong Eunju, and Kim Hyungjae participated in the exhibition, while Kwon Ryeongeun, Oh Seolyoung, Jeong Jihye, Na Yeonwoo, Nam Junghyun, and actor Lee Ri took part in the performances. Talk moderators include Kim Haeju, Shin Yesul, and Jeong Eunyoung, with lectures by Kim Minjo, Seo Hyunseok, Yang Hyosil, and Juno Kim.
