[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City, in collaboration with Inha University, has secured the Ministry of Environment's 'Metropolitan Area Fine Dust Research and Management Center.'
According to the city on the 29th, this center will investigate and analyze fine dust in the metropolitan area, conduct research, and carry out education and promotional activities to prevent health damage to the public.
The center will be established at Inha University's Aerospace Convergence Campus located in Songdo International City, where outstanding professors and researchers in the environmental field will participate in fine dust reduction projects.
The Ministry of Environment will provide an annual operating budget of 460 million KRW for the center and will also support separate project costs such as individual investigation and research expenses for each project.
Incheon has various sources of environmental pollution emissions, including the metropolitan landfill site, thermal power plants, industrial complexes, ports, and airports.
Additionally, being geographically close to China and Mongolia, Incheon is an optimal region for metropolitan fine dust research. Through analysis and research on the emission characteristics of fine dust by pollution sources and foreign factors, a reduction in fine dust is expected.
An official from Incheon City stated, "The operation of the Metropolitan Area Fine Dust Research and Management Center provides an opportunity for Incheon to take a leading role in reducing fine dust in the metropolitan area," adding, "We will do our best to prevent health damage to citizens caused by fine dust."
