[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On the 28th, Busan City is promoting an agreement for the revival of Hanjin Heavy Industries, one of Busan's representative companies and the first shipyard in Korea.
Busan City announced that at 4 p.m. on the same day, it will hold a business agreement ceremony for the early normalization of Hanjin Heavy Industries together with Dongbu Construction, Hanjin Heavy Industries, Busan City Council, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Busan Economic Revival Citizens' Coalition.
Busan City has been making various efforts by visiting the Korea Development Bank and the Dongbu Construction consortium along with the Busan City Council, Busan Chamber of Commerce, and civic groups to maintain Hanjin Heavy Industries' shipbuilding industry and employment.
Since the completion of the acquisition and merger of Hanjin Heavy Industries in August, this agreement ceremony was prepared with the meaning that not only the parties involved in the acquisition and merger but also the local community will all work together for the prompt normalization of management.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan; Shin Sang-hae, Chairman of Busan City Council; Heo Sang-hee, CEO of Dongbu Construction; Hong Moon-gi, CEO of Hanjin Heavy Industries; Jang In-hwa, Chairman of Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Park In-ho, Standing Chairman of the Busan Economic Revival Citizens' Coalition.
The main contents of the agreement on the day include ▲ Hanjin Heavy Industries' efforts to normalize management and Dongbu Construction's active support for this ▲ maintaining Hanjin Heavy Industries' shipbuilding industry and employment even after the acquisition and merger ▲ joint efforts by Busan City, Busan City Council, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Busan Economic Revival Citizens' Coalition for the normalization of Hanjin Heavy Industries' management.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon of Busan said, "The shipbuilding industry has been improving since this year, and the prompt normalization of Hanjin Heavy Industries, which is like a pillar of the Busan economy in the current situation, will greatly contribute not only to maintaining the local shipbuilding industry and employment but also to revitalizing the Busan economy."
Hanjin Heavy Industries, which is newly starting after completing the acquisition and merger procedures with Dongbu Construction, was established in 1937 as Korea's first shipyard and has played a key role in the growth of the shipbuilding industry as a major industry in Korea.
As a representative company of Busan, it has about 100 partner companies and maintains employment of about 2,000 people, contributing to the development of the local economy as a pillar of the Busan economy.
