Samsung Heavy Industries Wins Order for 6 LNG-Powered Container Ships Worth 841.2 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 16th that it has secured an order worth 841.2 billion KRW for six liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships from a European shipping company.
These vessels will be equipped with fuel-saving technology and Samsung Heavy Industries' proprietary smart ship solution, 'S-Bessel.' They are scheduled for sequential delivery by November 2024.
With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has raised its cumulative orders for this year to 7.8 billion USD, surpassing its shipbuilding division target of 7.1 billion USD. The company expects to achieve the overall target of 9.1 billion USD, including the offshore division, ahead of schedule before the end of the year.
Due to strengthened environmental regulations, demand for eco-friendly ships is increasing, and additional orders are anticipated. This year, the company has secured orders for 60 vessels, with 29 of them being eco-friendly ships such as LNG carriers or dual-fuel propulsion ships, accounting for nearly half.
