[AK Poll] Hypothetical Binary Matchup... Lee Nak-yeon 39.9% vs Hong Joon-pyo 46.1%
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] In a hypothetical matchup between ruling party presidential candidate former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon and opposition candidate Hong Joon-pyo of the People Power Party, Hong was found to be leading Lee.
On the 14th, Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion poll from the 11th to 12th targeting 1,022 voters nationwide aged 18 and older (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response). When asked, "If former leader Lee and Representative Hong face off in the next presidential election, whom would you support?" Hong received 46.1%, Lee 39.9%, with Hong leading Lee by 6.3 percentage points. Other candidates accounted for 5.2%, and none or unsure were 8.8%.
Former leader Lee led among women (46.4%), the Honam region (63.5%), and Gangwon-Jeju areas (46.4%). Representative Hong held the advantage among men (56.0%), those in their 20s (51.1%) and 30s (46.8%), Seoul (49.0%), Chungcheong region (51.3%), Daegu-Gyeongbuk (55.7%), and Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (52.7%).
By party support, 72.8% of those who identified as Democratic Party supporters said they support candidate Lee Nak-yeon, while 77.4% of People Power Party supporters said they support candidate Hong Joon-pyo.

This survey was conducted nationwide among voters aged 18 and older from the 11th to 12th, commissioned by Asia Economy to Win-G Korea Consulting, with 1,022 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.4%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers. The sample was extracted with weighting by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
