First Female Presidential Candidate Emerges in Somalia: "I Want to Break the Barrier"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] On the 12th (local time), AP News reported that the first female presidential candidate has declared her candidacy in Somalia, a conservative Islamic cultural region, drawing attention.
According to the report, Member of Parliament Fauzia Yusuf H. Adam has entered the upcoming Somali presidential election scheduled for next month. Adam previously served as Somalia's first female Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister.
In an interview with the news agency, Adam shared that she faced difficulties leading a male-dominated staff during her tenure as Foreign Minister. She recalled, "They (the staff) were very reluctant to collaborate with me simply because I am a woman."

Adam also stated, "I want to break down barriers for women," adding, "I hope many will have the courage to run for office in the near future, and even win."
