'Pet Medical Expense Support' Ordinance Passed at Gwangju City Council Plenary Session
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jang Yeon-ju, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, announced on the 10th that the ordinance supporting veterinary expenses for companion animals has passed the plenary session.
This ordinance was proposed with the purpose of supporting veterinary expenses up to 200,000 KRW per year for companion animals raised by socially vulnerable groups, aiming to improve the health of companion animals and reduce the economic and psychological burdens on socially vulnerable individuals.
Councilor Jang explained, "We are now able to support veterinary expenses for companion animals and carry out projects such as designating animal hospitals and signing agreements for this purpose."
She added, "Our society lacks social security for veterinary expenses, which increases the economic burden on households with companion animals and sometimes leads to the abandonment of animals. Therefore, it is urgent to prioritize support for veterinary expenses, especially for socially vulnerable groups."
