Prosecution Seeks Prison Sentence for YouTuber Mocking Jeong Gyeong-sim's Eye Patch
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The prosecution has requested a prison sentence for a YouTuber who insulted the court appearance of Jeong Gyeongshim, a professor at Dongyang University and wife of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk.
On the 7th, the prosecution stated at the trial for YouTuber Yeom Mo, held under Judge Jang Youngchae of the 11th Criminal Division at the Seoul Central District Court, "We ask the court to sentence the defendant to six months in prison."
Yeom is accused of making insulting remarks by imitating Professor Jeong, who was wearing an eye patch while attending court for charges including obstruction of business related to admission fraud, on YouTube and other platforms from June to September last year.
Yeom admitted to the charges and in his final statement said, "If I insulted Jeong Gyeongshim, who has a disability, I apologize and express regret," adding, "I tried driving while wearing an eye patch, but it was difficult, so I said that to avoid harming others, one should take off the eye patch while driving."
Meanwhile, another YouTuber, Park Mo, who was also indicted on the same charges, denied the allegations, stating, "There was no intent to insult, and even if it qualifies as an insult, it does not violate social norms." The court scheduled Park's second trial for the 26th of next month.
