Gwangju City Expresses Regret Over Use of Building Collapse Disaster Footage in Drama Penthouse
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City expressed strong regret regarding the use of footage from the collapse disaster at the Hakdong 4 District demolition site, where 17 casualties occurred, in the popular drama "Penthouse."
On the 6th, Gwangju City, through a spokesperson, stated, "The production team of 'Penthouse' using footage of the Gwangju Hakdong 4 District collapse accident site in the drama is a highly inappropriate act that makes the victims, their families, and the citizens of Gwangju even more distressed."
The spokesperson said, "The pain and wounds from the collapse accident that occurred at the Gwangju Hakdong 4 District redevelopment site last June have not yet healed," adding, "This accident remains an ongoing disaster that leaves deep trauma not only for the bereaved families and the injured but also for the citizens of Gwangju and many people nationwide."
He continued, "We strongly regret the use of accident site footage in the drama under these circumstances," emphasizing, "Considering that news footage of the Pohang earthquake victims was also used in another scene of the drama, this cannot be seen as a simple broadcasting mistake."
He also stated, "Such actions seriously damage the honor of the deceased and the victims' families," and "They aggravate the wounds of the victims and families who are still suffering."
