Gyeonggi Fire Department Conducts Safety Inspections at 204 Complex Buildings Ahead of Chuseok
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will conduct a focused crackdown on illegal fire-related activities targeting complex buildings such as shopping malls across the province ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
On the 6th, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced that on the 7th, it will carry out enforcement against three major violations?blocking of fire facilities, closure and damage to evacuation and fire prevention facilities, and illegal parking?at 204 complex buildings including shopping malls in the province.
The crackdown will involve 530 personnel organized into 204 teams from the headquarters, local fire stations' patrol teams, and special fire investigation teams, with each team inspecting two locations.
The main enforcement items include ▲cutting off power and alarms of automatic fire detection systems ▲cutting off power and valves of fire extinguishing equipment ▲closure and locking of emergency exits ▲management status of fire doors and fire shutters.
Since the crackdown dates were announced in advance, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters has decided to apply a zero-tolerance policy for any violations detected.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters has previously conducted inspections by selecting targets according to the period. In April, it carried out a comprehensive crackdown on 400 large construction sites over 5,000㎡ in total floor area across the province, and in July, it inspected 410 multi-use facilities such as lodging establishments.

A Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters official said, "This safety inspection targets shopping malls and other places expected to be crowded during Chuseok," adding, "Illegal acts that threaten the safety of residents will be strictly punished according to fire-related laws."
