18 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Today in Gwangju Area
Mandatory COVID-19 Testing for Foreign Employee Workplaces
City to Extend Social Distancing Level 3 Until the 3rd of Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 3rd, 18 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the Gwangju area.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City as of 2 p.m. on the day, a total of 18 cases were confirmed, including 17 local infections and 1 imported case.
Among them, a total of 10 people related to testing of foreigners located in Gwangsan-gu were confirmed, including cases 4176, 4177, 4179, 4180, and 4181.
Since a confirmed case (Jeonnam 2591) occurred at a logistics center in Gwangsan-gu on the 31st of last month, a series of infections have followed. Including cases 4178 and 4182, the cumulative total is 23.
Case 4189 is known to be related to case 5932 in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and case 4187 is related to nurse case 4056, who was confirmed last month at a hospital.
The imported case was case 4193 (Uzbekistan), with one confirmed case.
Cases 4186, 4188, and 4190 are currently under investigation regarding their infection routes.
Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop stated in a COVID-19 briefing, "We will further strengthen preemptive quarantine measures in response to the increase in confirmed foreign cases."
He continued, "So far, about 7,000 foreigners living densely in Gwangsan-gu have been tested, and over 100 confirmed cases have been found among them. However, it is understood that about 10,000 foreigners have not yet been tested."
In particular, he urged, "An administrative order for COVID-19 diagnostic testing has been issued for all business owners and workers at workplaces employing foreigners until the 10th. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to 2 million won."
Meanwhile, Gwangju City held a public-private joint countermeasure committee meeting on the day and decided to extend social distancing level 3 for four more weeks from the 6th of this month to the 3rd of next month.
