"Criticized Kim Eo-jun Sincerely, Then Got Edited"…TBS Panelist's Revelation
Jeong Ju-sik "Criticized Kim Eo-jun's partisanship, but it was edited out"
TBS responds to controversy over deletion of Kim Eo-jun criticism: "Edited to fit broadcast time"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] It has been revealed that TBS edited remarks made by a panelist criticizing broadcaster Kim Eo-jun, who is active as a radio show host at the company. As the controversy grew, TBS explained, "The content was shortened to fit the broadcast time."
Earlier, Jung Ju-sik, editor-in-chief of the internet media 'Jiksseol,' claimed on his Facebook on the 2nd, "After listening to the (podcast) replay, I confirmed that most of the critical remarks about TBS and Kim Eo-jun were deleted."
He said, "I went to record the TBS radio program 'TBS’s Window' last week. Although I personally do not favor the broadcaster, since it was a self-criticism program, I thought it would have some meaning and willingly agreed to appear. The topic was criticism of 'Kim Eo-jun’s News Factory.' It was not a subject that would bring out kind words, but I still showed goodwill and gave a sincere critique considering the host."
He continued, "The deleted parts included Kim Eo-jun’s partisanship revealed by changes in political temperature, the reason why News Factory is called the 'Progressive Gaseyeon (Garoseuro Research Institute),' problems with political critique corners featuring only panels with the same perspective, issues with Kim Eo-jun’s recent remarks related to the Jung Kyung-shim trial, and so on. Also, Dr. Lee Kyung-rak, who appeared together, compared the host’s behavior to that of an occupying force, but that remark was completely removed," he explained.
Editor Jung said, "Since all the relatively favorable comments were included, it seems the cuts were not due to time constraints," and criticized, "If they cannot even accept criticism to that extent, then what kind of state is that broadcasting station in right now?"
In response, TBS explained that the content was shortened only to fit the broadcast time and that there was no intentional editing.
TBS told Yonhap News, "TBS 'Agora' is a recorded program intended for editing," adding, "We recorded for nearly 30 minutes at the time and aired 14 minutes."
They added, "From the guest’s perspective, it may be unpleasant that half of their remarks were edited out, but please understand the production team’s difficulties in reducing content to fit the limited broadcast time."
Regarding this, Editor Jung posted again on Facebook, pointing out, "The distortion and editing of the broadcast according to the production team’s intention is not just my opinion but a consensus shared by other panelists and the host who appeared together."
He continued, "It was not because the content was cut for time, but because my opinions were distorted and delivered to listeners, I reluctantly expressed my regret on Facebook. If they had told me to adjust the tone considering listener sentiment, I would have understood and let it go as a working professional," he said.
