Samsung Ranks No.1 in India's Smartwatch Market Share for Q2... 'Galaxy Watch4' Launching on the 10th
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics recorded the highest market share in the Indian smartwatch market in the second quarter of this year.
Samsung Electronics India Pvt Ltd announced on the 2nd, citing market research firm IDC, that its smartwatch market share in India reached 41.2% in the second quarter of this year, ranking first. During this period, smartwatch shipments increased by 860% compared to the same period last year. However, specific shipment figures were not disclosed.
Samsung Electronics India explained, "The Galaxy Watch Active2 and Watch3 series attracted attention in the local market and showed strong sales." Samsung Electronics was known to have ranked second in market share behind Apple in this market in the first quarter.
To maintain this momentum, Samsung Electronics will officially launch the ‘Galaxy Watch4’ series on the 10th. The Watch4, unveiled on the 11th of last month, features enhanced body composition measurement functions and improved hardware performance such as processor and memory. Additionally, with the application of the new operating system (OS) 'Wear OS,' users can now access the Google Play Store. The Indian sales price of the Watch4 series ranges from 23,999 rupees (approximately 381,000 KRW) to 39,999 rupees (approximately 636,000 KRW).

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported in late last month that the Galaxy Watch4 might be the first Samsung product to challenge Apple's dominance in the smartwatch market. According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, the recent global market share of the 'Apple Watch' is estimated at 33%, while Samsung's is around 8%.
