Medical Service Act Amendment Passed in Plenary Session
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] A bill mandating the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) in operating rooms passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 31st.
On the afternoon of the same day, the National Assembly approved the amendment to the Medical Service Act with 135 votes in favor, 24 against, and 24 abstentions out of 183 members present. The amendment stipulates that medical institutions must install and operate CCTV inside operating rooms, disconnected from external networks.
According to the amendment, CCTV recording must be conducted upon patient request, and viewing is allowed only when requested by public institutions related to investigations or trials, or with mutual consent of the patient and medical staff. However, an exception clause allows medical personnel to refuse recording if there is a legitimate reason.
