Full Cancellation of the '27th Geoje Citizens' Day' Commemorative Event ... Separate Ceremony for Citizen Award Presentation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Geoje City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 30th that it will fully cancel the 27th Geoje Citizens' Day commemorative event scheduled for October 1st.
The city designates October 1st every year as Geoje Citizens' Day and has held large-scale cultural and harmony events biennially, but decided to cancel this year considering the unrelenting spread of COVID-19.
Byun Gwang-yong, the honorary chairman of the Citizens' Day Promotion Committee and mayor, said, "Although the cancellation decision is regrettable, the safety of citizens is the top priority in the COVID-19 crisis situation," adding, "We will do our best to block the spread of COVID-19 and carry out quarantine measures as we have done so far."
Ok Young-moon, chairman of the committee, presided over the promotion committee meeting and said, "There is much regret that we could not meet with citizens this year as well as last year," and added, "We hope a grand event will be held next year."
