[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] As Rep. Cho Kyung-tae of the People Power Party opposes the domestic acceptance of Afghan refugees, former Dongyang University professor Jin Jung-kwon has demanded that Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the same party, clarify his position.
On the 30th, former professor Jin shared an article titled 'Cho Kyung-tae: "There may be Taliban among Afghan refugees"... Jin Jung-kwon: "This kind of trash"' on Facebook, saying, "I can't even estimate how to refute Cho Kyung-tae's remarks. If I say one more word, I'll dissect them point by point."
He added, "That aside, does candidate Hong Joon-pyo share the same view?" and "I await an explanation from candidate Hong, who appointed this person as the head of the election campaign headquarters." Since Rep. Cho, who serves as co-chairman of the joint election countermeasures committee in Hong's camp, publicly opposed accepting refugees, Jin demanded that the candidate also state his position directly.
On the 29th, former professor Jin also strongly criticized Rep. Cho, who opposed accepting Afghan refugees, saying, "Where should we throw away this kind of trash? I hope they negotiate with the Taliban and exchange refugees for (Rep. Cho)."
Earlier, on the 25th, when the government's plan to transport local Afghan collaborators to Korea, called the 'Miracle Operation,' became known, Rep. Cho issued a statement saying, "I cannot understand the Moon Jae-in administration, which plans to send transport planes to bring refugees when even the U.S. military has abandoned plans to accept refugees in Korea."
He argued, "Can we be certain that none of the 400 Afghans brought here because they cooperated with our country are connected to the Taliban?" and "While we cannot even accept 300,000 North Korean defectors, accepting Islamic refugees with completely different religions and cultures solely for humanitarian reasons is absolutely unacceptable."

Meanwhile, on the 27th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs transported about 380 people, including collaborators who supported the activities of the Republic of Korea government in Afghanistan, their spouses, and children, to Korea through the 'Miracle Operation.' At that time, Choi Jong-moon, the second vice foreign minister, emphasized, "They are not refugees but special contributors entering the country."
