Seoul City Promotes Citizen Participation-Type 'National Safety Inspection'... Safety Checks on 2,200 Facilities
Experts by Field, Joint Inspections with Related Agencies, Utilizing Advanced Technologies like Drones to Eliminate Safety Blind Spots
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 30th that it will designate the period from next month 1st to October 29th as the National Safety Inspection period and conduct intensive inspections on over 2,200 facilities including aging buildings, demolition and excavation construction sites, and multi-use facilities.
Facilities that have recently experienced accidents, multi-use facilities, and aging facilities are the main targets of the inspection. Facilities inspected within the last three months and COVID-19 response facilities such as medical institutions, training facilities, karaoke rooms, PC rooms, and private sports facilities, which have been struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, are excluded from on-site inspections.
In response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, Seoul will conduct inspections in a non-face-to-face manner. Inspections will be carried out jointly with experts in each facility field and related organizations, and advanced technologies such as drones will be used to eliminate safety blind spots in areas that are difficult to access.
Additionally, to increase citizen participation, local citizen groups who know their regions best, such as ‘The Citizen Safety Group’, ‘Safety Guardians’, and ‘Voluntary Disaster Prevention Teams’, will be supported to act as the main agents of local safety activities.
Citizens can download a self-inspection checklist from the Safety Report app to check the safety of their own homes and stores. After conducting the inspection according to the checklist, results can be confirmed through the app.
Follow-up measures will be promptly taken based on the inspection results, and the safety inspection results will be disclosed through the ‘Integrated Safety Inspection Management System’, providing information on facilities, inspection results, and history.
