Mediarog Renames Channel to 'The Kids'
Launch Expected as Early as October
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] MediaLog, a subsidiary of LG Uplus, has acquired the 'Disney Channel' previously operated by a subsidiary of Walt Disney Korea. The channel name has been changed to 'The Kids' and will be operated as a specialized content channel for infants and toddlers.
According to related industry sources on the 26th, LG Uplus' subsidiary MediaLog has completed the acquisition contract for the Disney Channel from Disney Channel Korea LLC, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Korea.
An LG Uplus official explained, "MediaLog's acquisition of the Disney Channel is part of MediaLog's broadcasting channel operator (PP) business to expand the provision of infant and toddler content such as 'Bread Barber Shop' and 'PangPang Dino.'
They added, "The purpose is to strengthen MediaLog's competitiveness in the infant and toddler channel market."
MediaLog will operate three PP channels including the drama-specialized channel 'The Drama,' the entertainment-specialized channel 'The Life,' and now 'The Kids.' The official launch date of The Kids is expected to be after October.
