Yoo Seung-min Declares Presidential Candidacy... "I Will Be a President Who Solves the Era's Problems, Not Just Sweet Talk"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoo Seung-min, a former lawmaker and presidential candidate of the People Power Party, declared his candidacy for the presidential election on the 26th, promising to be a "competent president who can solve the problems of the era."
At the presidential campaign office on the same day, Yoo said, "I will not make sweet, empty promises," and pledged, "I will bravely carry out the necessary reforms for the bright future of all of us."
He emphasized that he is a "prepared candidate" strong in future, economy, and security.
Yoo said, "Low growth, low birthrate, and inequality have worsened during the COVID-19 crisis," and added, "I will revive the economy first to create jobs." As solutions, he promised to nurture one million innovative talents, win the semiconductor war, build a future city for non-memory semiconductors in the southern economic zone, and implement labor reforms through grand labor-management-government agreements.
Regarding real estate issues, he said, "If I become president, I will definitely tackle housing prices and monthly rent problems first," and added, "I will immediately increase supply upon inauguration and consistently push policies to lower real estate taxes to solve the real estate problem."
Yoo pledged to ensure that "every citizen can enjoy the 'dignity and value of human beings and the right to a humane life' guaranteed by the constitution," and proposed creating one million social service jobs and sustainable pension reforms as part of his platform.
On diplomacy and security, he stated, "We will engage in dialogue with North Korea anytime for denuclearization, but secure strong deterrence against North Korean nuclear weapons through U.S.-South Korea nuclear sharing, and firmly establish missile defense systems and kill chains," adding, "We will cooperate on economy and security for national interests, but will never tolerate infringements on our sovereignty and history."
Yoo emphasized, "Only those with a clear vision, philosophy, and policies are qualified to be president," and warned, "If an unprepared person becomes president based only on image, another failed president will emerge." He stressed, "We must stop elections based on hatred and voting against someone," and said, "We must make it so that our descendants live better and in a stronger Republic of Korea."
He appealed, "Yoo Seung-min is strong," and urged, "If you truly want a regime change, please choose the strongest candidate who can defeat the Democratic Party candidate in next year's presidential election."
