[Exclusive Video] "Grandma is Falling!" Brave Neighbor Saves Grandma Hanging from Apartment
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, PD Yoon Jin-geun] "I heard a voice saying 'Help me!'"
At around 9 a.m. on the 24th, an elderly woman in her 80s was precariously hanging from the balcony of an apartment in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, and was rescued by 119 emergency responders. The grandmother was hanging from the railing on the outer wall of the 12th floor of the apartment. A neighbor living in the apartment held onto the grandmother with all their strength until the fire brigade arrived at the scene, ultimately saving her life.
According to the informant, residents of the apartment immediately launched a desperate rescue effort upon hearing the cries of "Save me." The couple who rescued the grandmother, interviewed by Asia Economy that day, explained the tense situation: "We heard a voice saying 'Help me' from outside the living room balcony door. Even after opening the screen door, we couldn't find where the sound was coming from, so we went to the master bedroom balcony and looked out the window, and saw the grandmother's legs."
They continued, "We woke up my husband who was sleeping and together held onto the grandmother's legs," adding, "Several windows around were open, and we heard people saying, 'I called for help. Please hold on a little longer.'"
The couple said, "The grandmother was not holding onto the railing from above, but was being held from below," and added, "So her legs had come down to here (the window where they lived). The grandmother was gradually losing strength, so it was a dangerous situation."
The grandmother’s protector held onto her arm from the floor where she was hanging, while residents on the lower floor held onto her legs until she was rescued. It was truly a tense moment.
Then, the 119 rescue team arrived at the scene, laid out a safety mattress on the ground outside the apartment, and entered the building to successfully rescue the grandmother inside the railing. Within about 10 minutes of the report, the grandmother was safely rescued and taken by ambulance to the hospital.
An official from the Jungnang Fire Station stated, "Around 9:17 a.m., multiple reports were received, and after dispatch, the person in need was rescued," adding, "(The rescued person) showed no special injuries upon hospital transfer."
