Lee Jung-mi Announces Presidential Bid... Justice Party's Next Presidential Candidate Faces Three-Way Race
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former Justice Party leader Lee Jeong-mi has announced her candidacy for next year's presidential election. On the 23rd, Lee declared her bid for the presidency, stating, "I want to take the baton away from the entrenched powers who do not budge for immediate gains and hand it over to the younger generation."
On the same day, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "I will build a country alongside those who desperately long for a world where one can live without straining themselves or putting on airs, a life where you don't have to give up something for your dreams, and a society where you can feel secure even if you fail."
Lee, a former labor activist affiliated with the 'Incheon Union,' part of the party's National Liberation (NL) faction, entered the National Assembly as a proportional representative in her 20s and served as party leader in 2017.
With Lee Jeong-mi's presidential bid, the Justice Party now has three final candidates competing for the party's nomination: Representative Sim Sang-jung, former leader Lee Jeong-mi, and Hwang Soon-sik, chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Party Committee.
