Everything is unfamiliar at first, but sometimes it becomes such a natural part of life. Many people probably recognize various social networking service (SNS) channels as essential daily activities. I use them as a means to write concise phrases to reinforce my resolutions. Recently, there is a phrase I wrote in a space visible to others.
What many expected to be a brief pandemic situation has now turned into a prolonged battle no one can predict. People are falling into economic hardships that threaten their livelihoods, and a general atmosphere of stagnation continues throughout society. In this situation, the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics felt like "rain after a drought."
Among the events, women's volleyball gained the most attention. The sight of each player giving their best in their position, the passion of throwing their whole body to save balls that seemed impossible to catch, the refusal to give up even when the score gap was wide, and the moments of comforting each other were enough to move the viewers. Naturally, the team captain attracted the most interest. It seemed that her superior physical attributes and overseas experience played a big role in making her stand out, but I learned that it was not luck but her own relentless effort. From the time she started playing as an elementary school student to early high school years, she was much shorter than other players. There was even a coach who advised her to quit playing. However, because she did not know which position she would take due to her height, she trained in all positions, which led to who she is now. She skillfully blocks balls from Western players who excel in strength, jumping ability, and height, and even slides on the floor to save those difficult balls after showing powerful spikes.
We are all like players running day by day in our respective fields. What about me? Unfortunately, I have no innate advantages. Rather, disadvantages come to mind first. Having spent quite some time contemplating my career path and gaining various work experiences, I was delayed in choosing my current profession. The knowledge I systematically learned as a new employee must now be searched for and acquired through books and media on my own. It is also a time to devote time and heart to household matters. If I were to list my worries, I could write a lot.
Fortunately, I already know how to become a good player.
If you are a player with many shortcomings, you just need to work harder than others. If you cannot serve sharply after practicing for one hour like others, then practice for two hours. You just need to accept that you are a little slower than others. Running for two hours instead of one will be more boring and more exhausting. You just need to avoid getting tired at that moment. If you accept your shortcomings and consistently put in a little more effort over time, becoming an excellent player is already a predetermined outcome.
"The answer is already decided." This is a phrase that will remain on my SNS for a while. The result that I will grow into an excellent player is already decided. If I do not get tired and devote just a little more time and effort, I am already an excellent player.
