As of 9 PM, 1,306 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed...176 Fewer Than Yesterday (Comprehensive)
Expected 1,400-1,500 New Cases Today
Cases Plateau but Remain Above 1,300 for a Week

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] As the fourth wave of COVID-19 continues, the daily number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has exceeded 1,300 for a week straight.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments on the 22nd, from midnight to 9 p.m. on that day, 1,306 new confirmed cases tested positive for COVID-19.
This is 176 fewer than the 1,482 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. Compared to the 9 p.m. tally last Sunday (the 15th), which was 1,429 cases, it is 123 fewer.
Of the new confirmed cases on that day, 63.9% (835 cases) occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area. By city and province, there were 384 cases in Seoul, 376 in Gyeonggi, 75 in Incheon, 61 in Chungnam, 57 in Daegu, 52 in Gyeongnam, 50 in Busan, 35 each in Chungbuk and Gyeongbuk, 33 in Ulsan, 31 in Jeju, 30 in Daejeon, 28 in Gwangju, 25 in Gangwon, 24 in Jeonbuk, and 10 in Jeonnam. Only Sejong City reported no new confirmed cases.
The number of new confirmed cases by midnight is expected to be around 1,400 to 1,500. The previous day’s final count was 1,628.
Since the beginning of last month, the fourth wave has intensified, and the spread is accelerating. The daily confirmed cases have recorded four digits for 48 consecutive days since the 7th of last month (1,212 cases). The daily trend of new confirmed cases over the past week (16th?22nd) was 1,555 → 1,372 → 1,805 → 2,152 → 2,052 → 1,880 → 1,628 → 1,306 (as of 9 p.m.). At least 1,300 cases have been confirmed each day.
New cluster infections have occurred linked to daycare centers, academies, logistics centers, churches, and bathhouses.
Regarding a daycare center in Mapo-gu, Seoul (second case), a total of 13 people have tested positive since the 13th. At an academy in Gangnam-gu, Seoul (sixth case), 19 people have tested positive since the first confirmed case on the 12th.

At a dye manufacturing company in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi Province, and a logistics center in Pyeongtaek-si (second case), 16 and 17 people were confirmed positive, respectively. A total of 15 infections were confirmed related to a bathhouse in Jung-gu, Ulsan. At a church in Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk Province, 11 confirmed cases were identified.
