On August 20, at High1 Golf Club (par 72, 6,511 yards) in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, Lee Gayoung shot a 5-under-par on the second day of the KLPGA Tour Kookmin Shelter High1 Resort Women’s Open (total prize money: 800 million KRW), maintaining her position at the top of the leaderboard for the second consecutive day with a total of 10-under-par 134. Oh Jihyun (25, KB Financial Group), the “Jeju Samdasoo Champion,” and Heo Dabin (23, Samil Pharmaceutical) are tied for second at 6-under-par 138. Park Minji (23, NH Investment & Securities), a six-time champion, and Cho Ayeon (21, Dongbu Construction) are among those tied for fourth at 5-under-par 139.
Lee Gayoung started the day tied for the lead, two strokes ahead, and recorded a flawless round with five birdies and no bogeys. She made consecutive birdies on holes 2 and 3 for a strong start, then added “stepping-stone birdies” on holes 8 and 10. She showcased a perfect game by picking up another stroke on the par-5 15th hole. With a four-shot lead, she is in a prime position to claim her first career victory. “If I play without being greedy, I think good results will follow,” she said, adding, “I will focus on attacking the course strategically and making sure not to miss the greens.”
