Coupang Strengthens Shuttle Bus COVID-19 Prevention Measures... Invests 1.7 Billion Won in Kiosk Installation and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Coupang's subsidiary, Coupang Fulfillment Service, announced on the 20th that it has installed kiosks for temperature measurement and seat number input on shuttle buses commuting to logistics centers.
Previously, separate personnel were deployed to check temperatures manually, but to conduct all processes contactlessly as much as possible, kiosks have been gradually installed on all shuttle buses since April. Passengers check their temperature before boarding using the kiosk installed on the bus, and employees with abnormal temperatures are prohibited from boarding.
Additionally, through QR scanning on the kiosk, passengers select their seat number, enabling an automated system to immediately identify the bus and movement paths used by any confirmed COVID-19 cases among passengers. Coupang invested about 1.7 billion KRW to strengthen shuttle bus disinfection facilities.
Coupang supports logistics center employees commuting by shuttle bus. All employees working at logistics centers, including daily workers and contract workers, can use the shuttle bus free of charge, and can easily apply for tickets by downloading the shuttle bus application.
Currently, more than 1,000 buses operate daily nationwide for Coupang logistics center employees' commuting. As of the first half of this year, the monthly average cost of operating the shuttle buses reaches 6.3 billion KRW. Annually, about 76 billion KRW is spent to support employees commuting more safely.
Meanwhile, Coupang maintains an 'ultra-high-intensity social distancing' system at all business sites including logistics centers and delivery camps. A distancing app is distributed to all logistics center employees nationwide; if workers stay within one meter of each other, an alarm sounds and the contact is automatically recorded.
