Jigok-myeon Jung Woo-sik Harvests Jo Un-byeo Rice from Packaging
Expecting Increased Farm Income through Early Cultivation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 19th, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced that the first harvest of early-season rice for Chuseok new rice was carried out at the paddy field of Jeong Woo-sik in Opyung Village, Gaepyeong-ri, Jigok-myeon.
According to Hamyang-gun, Jeong Woo-sik, who produces early-cultivated rice in Gaepyeong-ri, Jigok-myeon, harvested the early-cultivated Jo-un rice variety 120 days after transplanting it on April 25.
This year, 38 farms in Hamyang-gun cultivated the Jo-un rice variety on 35 hectares, with harvesting taking place from late August to early September. About 20 people, including Hamyang County Governor Seo Chun-su, heads of organizations, and farmers, attended the first rice cutting event.
The county has supported rice-producing farms by providing seedling box treatment agents at the time of rice transplanting to improve rice quality and cope with pests and diseases, and conducted joint pest control using drones in two rounds during July and August, when pest outbreaks are frequent.
Governor Seo Chun-su of Hamyang said, "Rice is the most important crop cultivated as the staple food of our people, but it is regrettable that income is relatively low compared to other crops. I hope that early cultivation, which harvests rice more than two months earlier than the general rice harvest period for Chuseok new rice, will increase farmers' income."

He added, "Last year, the long rainy season of over 50 days caused problems such as reduced yield and decreased quality, but this year, due to abundant sunlight and moderate rainfall, the crop condition is good so far, and the quality is good with an expected increase in yield."
