The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 18th (local time) that "President Ghani and his family were welcomed on humanitarian grounds."
President Ghani fled abroad immediately with his wife and aides on the 15th when the Afghan capital Kabul faced the threat of falling to the Taliban.
Afterwards, his destination was unknown. Al Jazeera reported that he headed to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, but his final destination was the UAE.
Sputnik News, citing a source from the Russian Embassy in Afghanistan, reported that President Ghani escaped with four cars full of money, sparking global outrage.
The news agency stated, "President Ghani tried to load money onto the escape helicopter, but not all could fit, so some were left on the runway."
As many tried to flee Afghanistan by crowding Kabul International Airport, causing great chaos, U.S. media reported that Ghani’s daughter, who resides in the United States, is living a comfortable life as an artist and filmmaker, intensifying criticism against President Ghani for abandoning his country and people.
