Geumcheon-gu Delivers 13,000 Recycled Ice Packs to Doksan-dong Usijang
Since March, pilot project for ice pack recycling underway to establish resource circulation system... Completion this year expected to protect environment and reduce household waste by about 12 tons
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseong Hoon) delivered 6,000 recycled ice packs to the Usijang market at the parking lot of Hyupjin Building in Doksan-dong on the 13th.
This is already the third delivery, providing a total of 13,000 ice packs (about 5 tons) so far.
Since March, the district has signed a business agreement with the Geumcheon Community Rehabilitation Center and has been promoting the "Ice Pack Recycling Pilot Project" to protect the environment and reduce household waste.
The "Ice Pack Recycling Project" collects used ice packs from the local community centers, then cleans, disinfects, and repackages them before providing them to traditional market merchants. This project is recognized as an excellent case of establishing a resource circulation system.
Additionally, the pilot project will be expanded, and separate collection boxes will be installed in apartment complexes within the district in the second half of this year.
Recyclable ice packs are gel-type products wrapped in plastic. Ice packs wrapped in paper or nonwoven fabric, or those that are damaged or contaminated, cannot be recycled.

Yuseong Hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "With the spread of COVID-19, the consumption of fresh food delivered to homes has increased, leading to a rise in ice pack usage. Through this pilot project, we ask for the active participation of residents and merchant associations so that the district can achieve both resource circulation and waste reduction."
