Court: "Unfathomable Crime"... Sentenced to 5 Years Imprisonment
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A teenager who assaulted his teenage girlfriend with whom he was cohabiting for refusing to have sexual relations and threatened to kill their one-month-old son by putting him in a toilet bowl was sentenced to prison.
On the 13th, Judge Lee Yeon-jin of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 2 announced that A (19), who was indicted on charges of special threats and child abuse under the Child Welfare Act, was sentenced to five years in prison. In addition, A was ordered to complete a 40-hour child abuse treatment program and was restricted from working at child-related institutions for five years.
Earlier, A was charged with threatening B (14), his cohabiting girlfriend, with a weapon around 4 a.m. on December 15 last year at a villa in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, after their argument, when their one-month-old son C started crying. He grabbed B by the collar, placed her on the kitchen sink, and threatened her with a weapon.
A told B, "If you don't kill the baby, I will," and put their son C into the toilet bowl. He then slapped B 15 times, saying, "If you make a sound, the baby will die inside the toilet."
It was investigated that A committed these crimes because B had promised to have sexual relations but tried to spend time with another friend.
This was not A's first act of violence. From February to December last year, he frequently assaulted B by grabbing her hair, slapping her cheeks, or kicking her stomach. Also, last summer, he threatened B, who was seven months pregnant, by pressing a weapon against her belly, saying, "You stab it," because she made a verbal mistake to acquaintances.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "A physically and mentally abused a newborn who could not protect himself, and continued the crimes for incomprehensible reasons against B, who is a minor and needs care after pregnancy and childbirth. Considering the serious physical and mental damage suffered by the victims and B's expressed intention for severe punishment through her lawyer."
