On the 12th, the Geumgang River Basin Environmental Office announced that as of 3 p.m. that day, an algal bloom alert at the 'Interest' level was issued for the Munui water area.
This measure was taken because the number of harmful cyanobacteria cells exceeded the alert standard (1000 cells/㎖) for two consecutive weeks.
The Geumgang River Basin Environmental Office analyzes that the increase in harmful cyanobacteria cells in the Munui water area is due to the inflow of nutrients into the lower reaches of Daecheong Lake caused by intermittent rainfall in addition to the rise in water temperature due to the heatwave.
So far, it has been investigated that the algal bloom alert standards have not been exceeded in other water areas such as Chudong and Hoenam besides the Munui water area.
However, it is reported that if the heatwave continues, these water areas will also be in a situation where safety cannot be assured.
