View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jeonghwan] The Ulsan High School fencing team participated in the '49th Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism National Middle and High School Fencing Championships' held from the 4th to the 9th at Baesan Gymnasium in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, winning silver medals in both the individual and team events.
Third-year student Gwak Youngtae won the silver medal in the individual event, while Gwak Youngtae, Kim Jimin, Park Jun, and Kim Dowan won silver medals in the team event.
In the men's high school Epee individual event, Gwak Youngtae defeated Bulgok High School's Jo Jaechan 15-13 in the round of 16 and Bulgok High School's Kang Byeongmin 14-12 in the quarterfinals.
He won 15-3 against Kwon Hyeongwoo of Gyeongnam Sports High School in the semifinals but lost 15-10 to Kim Jeongbeom of Chungbuk Sports High School in the final, earning the silver medal.
In the team event, Ulsan High School defeated Chungnam Mechanical Technical High School 45-36 in the quarterfinals, won against Incheon Sports High School 45-41 in the semifinals, but lost 45-32 to Gyeongnam Sports High School in the final, securing the silver medal.
