Imsil-gun Selected as a 'Dream Orchestra Preliminary Base Institution'

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil County, Jeonbuk (Governor Shim Min) announced on the 11th that the Imsil Cultural Center has been finally selected for the '2021 Dream Orchestra Preliminary Base Institution' contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.

Among about 10 institutions nationwide that applied for this year's Dream Orchestra Preliminary Base Institution contest, only two places, Imsil County and Yecheon County, were selected.

The Imsil Cultural Center will receive national funding worth between 100 million to 180 million KRW annually for six years starting next year.

The Dream Orchestra project is a music character education program that helps children and adolescents from culturally underprivileged areas or marginalized groups develop self-esteem and proper character through orchestra ensemble, enabling them to grow into bright and healthy members of society.

Taking the selection as an orchestra base institution as an opportunity, the county plans to form a children and youth orchestra and provide high-quality classical music education through professional music instructors.

Also, through this contest selection, it is expected to greatly contribute to expanding the base of local culture and arts by broadening the existing cultural center programs, which mainly targeted the elderly, to children and adolescents.

In particular, it is anticipated to promote healthy character development and growth by providing children and adolescents in rural areas with music education programs of a level comparable to those in large cities.

Governor Shim Min said, “I am pleased to secure project funds that allow local children and adolescents to access high-quality cultural and artistic education,” and added, “We will strive to provide administrative support so that many children in the region can cultivate healthy character through music education and open a bright future for the county.”
