Dongdaemun-gu Conducts Resident Survey on Smart City Development from 9th to 27th... Accelerating Smart City Creation with Basic Plan Establishment and Ordinance Enactment
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yoo Deok-yeol, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, is accelerating efforts to create a smart city to improve residents' quality of life and enhance urban competitiveness.
The district will conduct a survey targeting residents from August 9 to 27 to gather local opinions for informatization and smart city development in Dongdaemun-gu.
The survey covers ▲ administrative information systems and services including the Dongdaemun-gu Office website ▲ informatization of daily life and local infrastructure ▲ awareness and preferences regarding smart cities. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the survey will be conducted non-face-to-face via the Dongdaemun-gu Office website.
Additionally, survey forms will be available at the Dongdaemun-gu Office and 14 community service centers to encourage residents' participation.
The district plans to create a differentiated smart city unique to Dongdaemun-gu by reflecting the survey results.
Prior to this survey, in June, the district initiated a master plan project for informatization and smart city development for the next five years, establishing a smart city vision.
Accordingly, systematic policy promotion plans will be sought annually and in phases, alongside the basic informatization plan reflecting changes in information technology.
To establish an institutional foundation for advancing into a smart city, the district will enact the Seoul Special City Dongdaemun-gu Smart City Creation and Operation Ordinance. The ordinance will be announced for legislative notice in September, gather residents' opinions, undergo council review in October, and be promulgated in November.
To smoothly promote smart city projects, the district reorganized its organization early last year into four teams: Smart City Planning Team, Smart City Management Team, Big Data Team, and Smart Control Team.
Furthermore, the district has been implementing various projects utilizing information and communication technology (ICT) to improve residents' quality of life. These include IoT-based traditional market fire alarms and smart plug support projects for households at risk of solitary death. Selected for projects by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City, the district secured a total budget of 1.2 billion KRW for the "Dongdaemun-gu Smart City Integrated Platform Construction" project, which protects residents' lives and property and operates a safety system linked with 112 and 119 emergency services to secure golden time in emergencies.
