Yoo Seung-min (39), president of the Korea Table Tennis Association, was elected as the first Asian vice-chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission. According to Inside the Games on the 6th, Yoo, an IOC Athletes' Commission member, was chosen as vice-chairman in the Athletes' Commission vote held that day. With increased opportunities to interact with senior IOC officials, this is expected to greatly aid the advancement of South Korea's sports diplomacy. He stated, "As athletes worldwide face difficulties due to the spread of COVID-19, I will take responsibility and diligently listen to the voices of athletes to represent them." The new Athletes' Commission chairperson is Emma Terho of Finland, who won two bronze medals in ice hockey at the Winter Olympics. She defeated Yelena Isinbayeva (Russia), the legendary women's pole vault athlete, in the vote. Going forward, she will represent athletes from each country and attend the IOC Executive Board meetings.
