"Before It's Too Late"... Oh Se-hoon Accelerates SH President Appointment Process
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has initiated a re-application process for the president of the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation). This move appears to be an effort to quickly resolve the 'Oh Se-hoon-style personnel issue' that has been complicated since candidate Kim Hyun-ah's withdrawal. It is interpreted as a determination to prevent the controversy surrounding the SH Corporation president appointment from leading to a loss of momentum in real estate initiatives.
According to the Seoul city government on the 3rd, the Executive Recommendation Committee, responsible for recommending candidates for the SH Corporation president, extended its activity period and began the re-application process from the day before. Typically, the committee dissolves after selecting a candidate. Although they could have formed a new committee for the re-application process, the city decided to extend the existing committee's activity period, emphasizing speed.
This is believed to be in accordance with Mayor Oh's directive to prepare the public recruitment process as quickly as possible. The mayor is hurrying the appointment because, with little time left in his term, he believes the leadership position of the SH Corporation, which will lead real estate policies, must not remain vacant any longer. The SH Corporation president position has been vacant since April 7.
The risk that personnel failure could lead to dissatisfaction with real estate policy outcomes also seems to have influenced this decision. Although four months have passed since Mayor Oh took office, no significant achievements have been made in reconstruction or even in the private redevelopment sector.
The city also plans to shorten the schedule as much as possible. They intend to allow previous unsuccessful applicants to reapply and aim to complete the appointment within a month, including the personnel hearing by the city council.
