Workplace Harassment of Cleaning Workers Confirmed... Seoul National University "Deep Apologies to the Deceased and Bereaved Family"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Following the Ministry of Employment and Labor's investigation revealing that cleaning workers experienced workplace harassment in connection with the dormitory cleaning worker death incident, Seoul National University expressed its apology.
On the 2nd, Seoul National University stated in a press release, "We offer our deepest apologies to the deceased, their bereaved family, and all affected workers," adding, "We will hold a meeting with the bereaved family and affected workers to offer our condolences and listen to their voices on site to prepare measures to prevent recurrence."
They continued, "Along with the Ministry of Employment and Labor's administrative (improvement) guidance, we will do our best to improve not only workplace harassment but also the overall working environment," and added, "In the process, we will actively listen to and consult with the labor union."
This follows the announcement on the 30th of last month of the Ministry of Employment and Labor's investigation results regarding the death of a Seoul National University cleaning worker in June, which found that cleaning workers were subjected to workplace harassment.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor judged that the dormitory safety management team leader at Seoul National University requiring cleaning workers to take a written test unrelated to their duties constituted workplace harassment. The Ministry notified Seoul National University of the investigation results and instructed them to immediately improve the workplace harassment issues, including the written test for cleaning workers, and to establish measures to prevent recurrence.
