Hajimin, First Korean Yacht to Enter Top 10 in the Olympics
Passed 5th in Medal Race... Final 7th Place
Ha Ji-min (32, Haeundae District Office) became the first Korean yacht athlete to rank within the top 10 at the Olympics.
On the 1st, Ha Ji-min finished 5th in the Laser class medal race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held at Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She scored 114 points from the 10 races plus 10 points from this race, totaling 124 points. With an average score of 98 points, she placed 7th overall. This is the first time Korean yachting has ranked within the top 10 at the Olympics. The previous best result was 13th place, also achieved by Ha Ji-min at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
Ha Ji-min was the first Korean yacht athlete to advance to the Olympic medal race. Yachting consists of ten races held once a day. Points are assigned as penalty points: 1 point for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, and so on. Rankings are determined by the average score of the ten races, excluding the lowest score. Only the top 10 athletes participate in the final medal race. The final ranking is decided by doubling the points from this race. Ha Ji-min ranked 7th out of 35 competitors in the ten races. She passed the medal race in 5th place but could not improve her final ranking further.
