Hong Jun-pyo: "Pardon All Victims of the Moon Administration's Deep-rooted Corruption Investigations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Hong Jun-pyo, a member of the People Power Party running as an opposition presidential candidate, has urged a large-scale pardon for officials from the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations who were arrested and indicted due to the Moon Jae-in administration's investigation into accumulated evils. This statement is stronger than his previous demands for pardoning the two former presidents.
On the 26th, Hong stated on Facebook, "The legitimacy of the Moon Jae-in administration's inauguration was greatly undermined by the opinion manipulation incidents involving Druking and former Governor Kim."
He said, "At the time of the inauguration, so-called investigations into accumulated evils led to the arrest and indictment of 200 officials from the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations, and there was an unprecedented tragedy where five people committed suicide during the investigation."
He criticized, "The prosecution at the time insisted that the investigation was conducted according to the constitution and laws, but it was not an investigation based on the constitution and laws; it was merely a commissioned political investigation demanded by power," adding, "It was a very brutal investigation and a prosecution that served power under the name of law." Although he did not mention former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl by name, it appears he also criticized the prosecution leadership at the time.
Hong said, "The so-called investigation into accumulated evils, which indiscriminately arrested opposition figures using hunting dogs driven by a desire for revenge and retaliation, must now be criticized in the name of the people," and claimed, "The upcoming August 15th grand pardon is the last chance to restore things to their original state."

He continued, "Do not conduct selective pardons that divide the opposition; instead, carry out a grand reconciliation pardon for all victims of the accumulated evils investigation," and repeatedly emphasized, "Exercise the initiative and grant the grand pardon while you still hold the power."
