Kia Union Declares Breakdown of Wage and Collective Bargaining Negotiations with Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The Kia labor union has declared a breakdown in wage and collective bargaining negotiations for 2021 and will conduct a strike vote among all union members.
According to the automotive industry on the 21st, the Kia union declared a breakdown in negotiations with management during the 8th main negotiation session held at the Sohari Plant headquarters in Gyeonggi Province the previous day and applied for dispute mediation with the Central Labor Relations Commission.
The Kia union is demanding a base salary increase of 99,000 KRW (excluding step increases), a performance bonus of 30% of last year's operating profit, extension of the retirement age (up to 65 years old), and a reduction of working hours to 35 hours per week. The management has reportedly not yet presented a separate proposal.

Accordingly, the union plans to resolve to initiate a strike on the 23rd and conduct a strike vote among all union members on the 28th.
