Incheon Yeonsu-gu Installs ICT-Based Smart Traffic Lights in School Zones
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, completed the first phase of the smart traffic light installation project to prevent traffic accidents last month by promoting various contests and pilot projects utilizing information and communication technology (ICT).
According to the district on the 20th, due to frequent safety accidents involving vulnerable pedestrians and smartphone users at crosswalks recently, smart traffic lights were installed at the intersection near Dongmak Elementary School and near Yeonseong Elementary School. The system consists of LED floor-type traffic lights and voice guidance auxiliary devices.
The LED floor-type traffic lights are highly visible to pedestrians, providing a safe walking environment, and the voice guidance auxiliary devices warn pedestrians with an alert sound if they enter the roadway during a red signal, preventing traffic accidents.
In addition to the smart traffic lights, the district is promoting the "IoT (Internet of Things)-based unmanned enforcement system for disabled parking zones" project as part of the smart city living lab project selected in the contest. Furthermore, efforts are underway to secure a budget for establishing an AI-based child accident prevention system.
