[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A man in his 40s who was arrested on charges of murdering a former colleague and disposing of the body in an officetel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, has been detained.
On the 18th, Judge Park Bomi of the Seoul Western District Court held a pre-trial detention hearing for suspect A, who is charged with murder and corpse disposal, and issued an arrest warrant citing "risk of flight."
A arrived at the court at around 1:32 PM for the hearing and headed straight to the courtroom without responding to reporters' questions such as "Do you admit the charges?" and "Why did you kill him?" After the hearing ended at around 2:24 PM, A got into the transport vehicle silently and left the court.
Investigations revealed that on the afternoon of the 13th, A killed the victim B with a pre-prepared weapon at the officetel where B worked. After the crime, A wiped off the bloodstains, placed the corpse in a travel bag, and moved to Gyeongsan. The body was disposed of in a septic tank.
After the crime, A sent two text messages from victim B's phone to B's wife, stating that he was "being investigated for proxy trading issues" and "had to hide due to an embezzlement investigation." Suspicious, the wife filed a missing person report on the morning of the 15th, which initiated the investigation.
