Increasing Hacking Risks... Vice Minister Jo Kyung-sik Conducts On-site Cybersecurity Inspection
Visit to Central Radio Management Office
Also Requests COVID-19 Prevention Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The government has launched an on-site inspection of cybersecurity response amid increasing hacking risks and a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Vice Minister Cho Kyung-sik visited the Korea Internet & Security Agency's Internet Incident Response Center (KISC) and the Central Radio Management Office on the 9th to inspect the cybersecurity threat response sites and COVID-19 quarantine status.
KISC carries out cybersecurity threat response tasks such as incident response, domestic and international cooperation and joint response to incidents, operation of the comprehensive situation room, analysis of incidents and malware, and support for the protection of critical information and communication infrastructure.
Vice Minister Cho Kyung-sik conducted an urgent on-site inspection at KISC, which operates 24/7 monitoring against cyberattacks such as hacking and DDoS attacks targeting companies, and provides rapid technical support in case of incidents.
This is because hacking attacks have recently expanded comprehensively in the U.S. targeting critical industries such as pipeline facilities, IT solution companies, and government agencies, causing economic and social damage due to work paralysis. Smishing attacks impersonating COVID-19 leftover vaccine reservation notifications are also on the rise again.
Additionally, he visited the Central Radio Management Office to check the COVID-19 quarantine status there. The Central Radio Management Office is a public-facing institution that supports safe and convenient radio usage for the public by investigating radio interference and responding to radio disruption.
