Seoul City Announces Canopy Design Idea Contest for Wirye Line Tram Stations
Total Prize Money of 32 Million Won, Joint Entries Allowed for Two or More Participants
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 9th that it will hold a design idea contest for the canopy of the streetcar (tram) stations on the Wirye Line, the first streetcar line to be constructed in Seoul.
The Wirye Line urban railway is an eco-friendly new transportation project connecting Macheon Station (Line 5) to Bokjeong Station (Line 8 and Suin-Bundang Line) by streetcar to alleviate traffic congestion and improve public transportation convenience in Wirye New Town, a large-scale new town located south of Songpa-gu in southeastern Seoul.
Detailed information about the design idea contest can be found on the Project Seoul website. The contest is open for submissions from the 8th to the 30th on the Project Seoul site, and proposal documents for the submitted works must be submitted between September 6 and 9.
As of the announcement date, anyone aged 19 or older can participate, and joint submissions by two or more people are also allowed.
The contest awards a grand prize (1 work, 10 million KRW), two excellence prizes (2 works, 8 million KRW each), and three merit prizes (3 works, 2 million KRW each), with a total prize money of 32 million KRW. Notably, the works selected for the grand prize and excellence prizes will be used in the design of the Wirye Line station canopies.
The Wirye Line (tram) urban railway will have a total length of 5.4 km connecting Macheon Station (Line 5) and Bokjeong Station (Line 8 and Suin-Bundang Line), with a total of 12 stations (including 4 transfer stations), and is scheduled to open in 2025. As of July, the construction bidding is progressing smoothly.
